Farts

What Causes Farts?

Farting is more to do with bacteria in the lower bowel.  The carbohydrates in some foods cannot be broken down and absorbed in the intestine.  They pass straight through to the bowel, where they are fermented by the bacteria to produce gas that comes out as farting.

There are quite a few foods that have a high proportion of unabsorbable carbohydrates that cause flatulence; another word for fart, such as beans, fruit juices, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, and apples.  Some people have other things that causes them to fart.  .

What Are Farts?

Farts are caused by trapped air, which can come from many sources.  Some of it is air that we have swallowed while eating or drinking.  Some air is caused by gas seeping into our intestines from our blood, and some gas is produced by chemical reactions in our intestines or bacteria living living in our guts.  A typical fart is composed of about 59% nitrogen, 21% hydrogen, 9% carbon dioxide, 7% methane, and 4% oxygen.

Why Do Farts Smell?

Farts smell due to sulphur.  The more sulphur-rich your diet is, the more terrible your farts will smell.  Some foods contain more sulphur than others, which is why eating things like beans, cabbage, cheese, soda and eggs can cause gas that will blow the roof.

Here are some fun facts about farting:

One person can produce about 0.5 litres offarts a day.
An average person farts around 14 times per day.
You can fart after you have died, but only for a little while after.

Conclusion

Some people try to hold it in so they dont get embarassed, but it is completely normal.  I know a few times i have just let it go in class and even assembly!

Olivia's work day moment in time

"Beep beep," went the shop buzzer as I stepped nervously into the sportshop.  A tall man greeted me politely,"Hi, how can I help you."  I replied,"I'm um here for um work day," hesitating, my hands shaking, my heart beating rapidly.  "Oh right, if you want to come through here," I followed anxiously not knowing what to expect or what to do.  My whole body shaking slightly.  ' I'm hungry!  When will I get a break or will I even get a break,' I thought to myself...
